Semi Refined Paraffin Wax

Semi-refined paraffin wax is a type of paraffin wax that has undergone partial refining processes to remove some impurities, but not to the same extent as fully refined paraffin wax. Semi-refined paraffin wax is often used in applications where the highest level of purity is not required, such as in industrial applications or as a component in certain formulations.

This product is a semi refined paraffin wax obtained by using oily wax as raw material, sweating or solvent deoiling, and then refining with clay or hydrogenation.

Applications:

Semi-refined paraffin wax has several applications across different industries. Here are some common uses:

  • Candle Manufacturing:It is utilized in candle production, particularly for making traditional or rustic-style candles. It provides a natural and textured appearance to the candles and can be blended with other waxes, additives, or dyes to create unique candle formulations.
  • Industrial Coatings:Slack wax is used in industrial coatings, such as rust preventive coatings or anti-corrosion coatings. It helps provide a protective layer against moisture, oxidation, and environmental elements, thereby extending the lifespan of various metal surfaces.
  • Rubber Industry:It finds application in the rubber industry as a processing aid and lubricant. It is added to rubber compounds during processing to enhance flowability, reduce friction, and improve mold release properties.
  • Polishes and Surface Treatments: Slack wax is used in the formulation of furniture polishes, car polishes, and other surface treatments. It provides a glossy finish, enhances surface smoothness, and helps protect against moisture and scratches.
  • Paper and Packaging: It is employed in the paper and packaging industry for various purposes. It can be used as a coating material for paperboard to enhance moisture resistance and provide a smooth surface. It is also utilized in the production of waxed paper or cardboard for applications like food packaging or disposable containers.

Principle of Semi-Refined Paraffin Wax:

It is produced during the initial stages of the refining process of crude petroleum oil. The principle behind its production involves the following steps:

  • Crude Oil Distillation: Crude petroleum oil undergoes distillation, a process where it is heated to separate different components based on their boiling points. As a byproduct of this distillation process, slack wax is obtained.
  • Solvent Extraction:The obtained slack wax is further processed using solvents to remove impurities, such as oil, resin, and colorants. Solvent extraction helps improve the quality and purity of the wax.
  • Deoiling and Filtering: The solvent-extracted wax is subjected to deoiling, where it is treated with various methods like chilling, centrifugation, or filtration to remove any remaining oil content and solid impurities. This step helps refine the wax and enhance its properties.
  • Solidification:The purified slack wax is then cooled and solidified into blocks or slabs. The resulting semi-refined paraffin wax has a relatively higher oil content and a lower degree of refinement compared to fully refined paraffin wax.

Semi-refined paraffin wax retains some of the natural impurities and characteristics of crude oil, making it suitable for specific applications where a less refined or textured appearance is desired.

Major Applications

Oil Seals and Gaskets:

TBBS is employed in the production of rubber seals and gaskets for applications where oil resistance and sealing properties are critical, such as in automotive engines.

Vibration Isolators:

In the field of machinery and equipment, TBBS can be used in the production of rubber components for vibration isolators, contributing to shock absorption and damping properties.
